Teal Mask Ogerpon / Mega Meganium ex Deck Guide: Grass Is Back and Winning
For the past year, playing a Grass-type deck in Standard meant one thing: losing to Charizard ex.
Charizard's Fire typing hit Grass for weakness, making almost every Grass-based archetype unplayable at a competitive level. But Charizard ex rotated with the G-mark cards in April 2026, and Grass-type decks immediately showed up in force.
Teal Mask Ogerpon ex has been a strong card since Twilight Masquerade. Paired with Mega Meganium ex from the new Mega Evolution - Perfect Order set, it is now one of the most dangerous archetypes in post-rotation Standard.
Why This Deck Works
Teal Mask Ogerpon ex is one of the most unique attackers in the game. Its Teal Dance Ability lets you attach a Basic Energy from your hand once per turn, then draw a card. Energy acceleration plus card draw in a single Ability is genuinely powerful, it keeps your hand full while powering up attacks simultaneously.
Its attack, Myriad Leaf Shower, deals 30 damage plus 30 more for each Energy attached to both Active Pokémon. In the mid-game with four or five total energy on both sides of the field, this is hitting for 150 to 180 damage, enough to one-shot most non-ex Pokémon and threaten most ex Pokémon.
Mega Meganium ex is what elevates this from a solid single-attacker deck into something special. Its Wild Growth Ability makes each Basic Grass Energy attached to your Grass Pokémon count as two Energy. This doubles the output of Ogerpon's Teal Dance, meaning you are functionally accelerating two Energy per turn instead of one. It also turbocharges Mega Meganium's own Giant Bouquet attack, which hits for 260 damage for four Energy, a cost that feels much cheaper when each energy counts double.
Together, the two cards create an engine that is hard to disrupt and builds momentum every single turn.
How the Deck Works
The opening turns are focused entirely on getting Mega Meganium ex into play on the Bench while Teal Mask Ogerpon ex attacks early.
Turn one to two: use Teal Dance to start accelerating energy onto Ogerpon and drawing into your evolution lines. You are looking for Chikorita, Bayleef, and Mega Meganium ex, plus Noctowl.
Turn two to three: start attacking with Myriad Leaf Shower. Even with two or three energy on each side, you are dealing 90 to 120 damage, enough to start pressuring most decks. Meanwhile, Meganium is setting up on the Bench.
Turn three to four: once Wild Growth is online, your energy acceleration doubles. Ogerpon can now swing for 150 to 180 or more damage regularly, while Mega Meganium ex waits to be promoted as a finisher or secondary attacker when Ogerpon is knocked out.
Noctowl is the deck's draw engine. Its Jewel Seeker Ability lets you search for any Supporter card from your deck once per turn, giving you access to Lillie's Determination, Boss's Orders, or any other Supporter exactly when you need it. This engine makes the deck remarkably consistent.

Key Cards Explained
Bug Catcher Set
A Supporter that lets you look at the top five cards of your deck and take any Grass Pokémon and any Grass Energy from among them. Essential for finding Mega Meganium ex's evolution line quickly.
Energy Switch
Moves Energy from one Pokémon to another. Use this to transfer accumulated Grass Energy from Ogerpon to Mega Meganium ex when you need to promote it. This is what makes the power transfer between the two attackers seamless.
Wellspring Mask Ogerpon ex
A Water-type secondary attacker. Its Torrential Pump attack hits the Active Pokémon for 100 and a Benched Pokémon for 120, giving you a spread tool and the ability to cover Water weakness matchups. Wild Growth makes its Water energy count as two, making it surprisingly easy to power up.
Artazon
A Stadium that lets you search your deck for a Basic Pokémon and put it onto your Bench. Helps you find Hoothoot and other low-HP bench pieces early without spending your Supporter for the turn.
Decidueye
A tech option for blocking damage to your Benched Pokémon. Its Deep Forest Cloak Ability prevents damage done to your Benched Grass-type Pokémon. This directly counters Dragapult ex's Phantom Dive spread strategy, protecting your low-HP setup pieces.
Matchup Overview
| Matchup | Rating | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dragapult ex | Favorable | Grass type; Decidueye shields bench from Phantom Dive. Race before Dusknoir consolidates. |
| Mega Lucario ex | Unfavorable | Weakness; Lucario OHKOs Meganium. Wellspring Ogerpon and fast prizes are your outs. |
| Mirror | Even | Whoever gets Wild Growth and Meganium online first; Noctowl for Supporters matters. |
| Alakazam | Favorable | Your acceleration outpaces slow counter placement; Decidueye helps vs. bench spread. |
Tips for Playing the Deck
- Get Wild Growth online as fast as possible. Every turn without Meganium on Bench costs double acceleration.
- Use Energy Switch liberally to keep Mega Meganium ex charged in the wings.
- Decidueye in Dragapult-heavy metas makes that matchup dramatically more playable.
- Noctowl proactively finds Boss's Orders or Lillie's Determination before you are desperate.
- Myriad Leaf Shower scales with total energy on board, watch high-energy opponents like Lucario.
Bottom Line
Teal Mask Ogerpon and Mega Meganium ex is not a new idea, it is a proven strategy that was suppressed by Charizard for over a year. With Charizard gone, this archetype is freed up to be exactly what it always wanted to be: a fast, consistent, high-damage Grass deck with two excellent attackers and one of the best draw-and-accelerate engines in the format.
If you are looking for something that is strong into Dragapult ex, rewards careful play, and is genuinely fun to pilot, this is the deck to build right now.
